A chill month
It's been a pretty nice January I think. Nothing really huge or exciting happened this month, but I had a good time pursuing my hobbies and trying to pick up some new ones. There was a pretty huge snow storm towards the end of the month that was fun to watch/hunker down inside from. Also, got to go to a few nice events and stuff too!
I finally started learning to draw a bit this month, and I did a bit of doodling towards the end of the month. Kinda fell off the wagon on formal practice towards the end of the month, but I had fun anyway! Here's some doodles/art practice I did this month:
I feel like my linework is still real shaky, and I still have a lot of symbol-brain, even when trying to draw from reference, but that's part of the learning process baybee. I'm gonna try to continue drawing a bit more next month I think. It's fun to doodle.
You know how I said I want to play a bunch more small projects and games this year? I did the opposite of that this month and just played WoW and wrapped up 100%ing Hades 2 lol. WoW put out an in-game housing thingy that really got the hooks into me. So, like the addict I am, I relapsed and did some gearing/transmog/housing stuff for a lot of my gaming hours this month. Oh well! In February I'm gonna try to cut that back a bit and get back to my backlog a bit.
I was able to keep up my Magic hobby pretty well though! I made it out to the weekly draft night I go to pretty much every week this month, and had some good fun as usual. The new Lorwyn set is good fun. I like the setting, and the gameplay is pretty decent. Maybe a bit bomb-y, but it seems pretty balanced when playing in paper to me! I haven't written any draft reports for those yet, since they kinda got away from me, but I'll probably get my most recent one up soonish.
I kinda dropped the ball a bit on planning D&D sessions this month though. Not for any good reason, just kinda got away from me I suppose! I should really get one planned soon, haha.
Still been plugging away at polishing up the game for a full release soon(tm). Looking at probably a late March release, but I've got a few marketing things to follow up on before I really start going hard on that. Mostly just been doing some final polish here and there. Sound effects, bug fixes, convienience features, etc. Got a meeting coming up with a marketing agency soon too, so maybe someone who actually knows what they're doing can help me get the word out, haha.
I also got out to a few nice events this month. I hit up the Dirty Rectangles game dev meetup this month, and had a nice time seeing everyone's projects and getting to chat with some other game devs and related folks. Also, like I said, there was a big snowstorm, so I went to a nearby park with a pretty huge sledding hill and managed to not totally destroy my butt sledding this time, so that's cool too. Doesn't seem like it'll melt any time soon either, so yeah, pretty wintery.
So yeah, all in all, kind of a chill month overall. Not very exciting, just kinda nice day to day kind of stuff. No news is good news, as they say.
